The industry raced toward sensors and automation. We took the opposite turn, and gave the room back to the person in it.
Somewhere along the way, lighting decided it knew better than we did. Rooms began to sense us, guess at our intentions and adjust themselves. The promise was convenience; the reality is often a space that feels faintly out of your control, and that quietly watches.
FORMAE is built on the opposite conviction. A scene of light is a creative choice, closer to how a lighting designer specifies a set or a gallery than to how a thermostat behaves. It should be composed, held and changed by intent, not interpolated by an algorithm reacting to a passing shadow.
That is also a stance on privacy. There are no motion sensors, no cameras and no data collected in a FORMAE room. Nothing is measuring the people inside it, a deliberate decision for the most private spaces of a home.
