The deepest rooms in a house are often the ones we use most, and the ones daylight never reaches.
Every home has a core: the media room, the spa, the basement gym, the internal dressing room. They are frequently the most indulgent spaces in the house, and almost always the darkest, cut off from any window by the very architecture that makes them private.
Conventional lighting can make these rooms bright, but rarely alive. Flat ceilings of downlights read as functional, never natural; the body still senses it is underground or enclosed. What is missing is not lumens but the quality and depth of daylight.
An optical sky changes the character of these spaces completely. A windowless room can be given the light and openness of one with a courtyard above it, the same sense of time, weather and air, without a single opening in the structure.
